Seeking to Call
1 Samuel 3:4-14, 19-21 | Luke 1:35-38
When God sought and called Samuel, he was a young man who didn’t understand the voice of the Lord. But God was patient and kept seeking. When he understood, Samuel said, “Yes, I will be a servant of Your will Lord, and I will listen to You.” For his obedience, God revealed to him the future and all of Israel recognized he was chosen by God to be their prophet, priest, and leader.
In contrast, Eli’s sons, who should have been next to lead Israel, did not heed to the call of God. They sinned against God and hurt His people. For this reason 1 Sam 2:12 describes them as sons of Belial, a Hebrew word literally meaning worthless.
The King of Heaven is calling from worthlessness to Kingdom purpose. He has a job for you. Will you say, “Speak Lord, Your servant is listening”?
