Among the Chaos

Luke 2:1-7

We sing “Silent night, Holy night” but the first Christmas probably didn't feel holy or calm. Jesus was born in a barn to average parents, under an oppressive and barbaric government and power-hungry religious leaders. But Scripture says, in God’s chosen time He sent His Son (Gal. 4:4). The Father planned all these disruptions to unite all creation to Himself through Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:10)

As we walk in this world of chaos and evil, let us be comforted in knowing Christ became human and experienced the worst of this world. Let us be encouraged knowing God holds our time in His hands (Psa. 31:15), raises our leaders for His will (Dan. 2:21), and commands what we fear (Psa. 148:7-8). Let us rest only in the comfort of His promises and rejoice in knowing that what man may mean for evil, God uses for good. Let us be confident that no present suffering is worthy to be compared with the glory of our future (Rom. 8:18). Then we can sing “all is calm, all is bright.”
