Seeking the Helpless
John 5:2-9 | Psalms 46:1
It’s incredibly distressing to have an ailment for which there’s no known cure. Even more frustrating is having an ailment for which there is a cure, but you have no way of accessing it.
The man by the Pool of Bethesda was in this very predicament. Year after year, he watched as people with ailments made their way to the pool as the water was troubled and they received healing from their afflictions. Year after year, he watched as someone else received the healing that he so desperately wanted. His unfortunate circumstance had nothing to do with his desire to be made well. Rather, he had no one to help him to the pool. He was utterly helpless.
Many people today are helpless. Jesus can help. Jesus came seeking the helpless.
