Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. – Psalm 51:10

I have heard the birds singing their songs, watched the trumpeter as they head home for yet another summer, yes, spring has sprung! As in years, past we usually have the urge to do spring cleaning in our homes. Its time to clean out every nook and crany of the house. We reach deep into every corner of our homes in order to make it fresh and clean once again.
As Christians, sometimes we need to do some deep “Spring Cleaning” of our spiritual homes. We need to take inventory of what we have accumulated in our spiritual homes, and clean up and maybe even receive a good strong scrubbing of our spiritual homes. After all, it is the Holy Spirit that lives in us as Christians. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19, “what know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…”

If we are not careful, we can allow things to be tucked back in areas of our spiritual closets and selves that aren’t needed. Grime and dirt slowly begin to accumulate on the walls and floors of our hearts. There should be times in our lives that we turn our spiritual homes upside down and inside out in order to present our bodies “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.” Romans 12:1

1. Evaluate – Is everything I do and say pleasing to the Lord? “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…”

2. Throw away junk – What seems to be cluttering up your life, causing it to be hard to serve God to your fullest potential? Are worry, anger, gossip and bad habits the junk in your closets?

Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise think on these things. – Philippians 4:8
