Mark 15:22-39 | Galatians 4:3-7

This scene of the cross shows us how alone Jesus was. Of all the throngs of people who proclaimed love, only a few women stood by. Not a single voice defended His honor.

Then even God turned away from His only Son and Jesus cried, “Why have You forsaken me?” At that moment, Jesus felt an overwhelming darkness and hopelessness too terrible for any of us to understand. For a time He experienced the worst part of Hell, an eternity without God. You see, even sinners enjoy the benefits of God’s blessings and presence here on earth. (Matt 5:45, James 1:17) Even in the ugliest darkness we know of, the love and light of God still shines. How heavy the darkness must have been for Christ. Why would Jesus willingly accept this punishment for us? Why would a Father do this to His Son?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16

“God sent forth his Son … that we might receive the adoption of sons.” (Galatians 4:4-7) Through our Saviour’s sacrifice we can call God our Father, our Abba (Daddy), and become heirs to His wealth. Oh, the Father in Heaven gives good gifts to His children. Won’t you taste and see?
